These two new gantry cranes create a greater span in height and in length than the six others that are already in service in the Abidjan Terminal. These new cranes make it possible to unload container ships of over 8,000 TEUs at the terminal with increased handling speed. When they start operations next February, the Abidjan space will be able to load and unload containers far more quickly than before.
Capable of handling 65 tonnes of payload (i.e. two full containers at once, called twin lift) this equipment combined with the existing gantry cranes will significantly improve the productivity of the Abidjan Port. Because of this, they will improve the quality of the service for both shipowners and consignees. Designed by ZPMC, world leader in gantry crane equipment construction, these two gantry cranes are equipped with the latest electronics and innovative control systems. They meet shipowner requirements in terms of quality of service, speed, and operational safety.

Towards more competitiveness for shipping agents, importers and exporters
To deal with the increased volume generated by Cote d’Ivoire’s sustained economic growth, Abidjan Terminal launched a comprehensive modernization plan. The two new gantry cranes the terminal just received are part of an investment plan that has already resulted in the opening of a new automated terminal access last July and the commissioning of four new container gantry cranes (RTG) in April 2017.
All these investments aim to improve the flow of goods in and around the port and to improve the quality of the service to the terminal's clients. Abidjan Terminal is fully devoted to the development plan initiated by the Autonomous Port of Abidjan, which is part of the logistics transformation of tomorrow’s Côte d’Ivoire. Abidjan Terminal has the following certifications: Quality – ISO 9001, Environment – ISO 14001, Health and Safety – OHSAS 18001, Free Pedestrian Yard.
