Bolloré Logistics Germany launches pilot project with e-cargo bikes for sustainable delivery logistics at the Hamburg site

Puteaux. 17 April 2023

In February 2023, Bolloré Logistics has started deploying at its Hamburg site: mocci's Smart Pedal Vehicles. These innovative electric bicycles are aimed to replace transport by vans and trucks used on day-to-day business between customers, the logistics centre and the authorities for the exchange of a large number of spare parts, tools and documents.

Together with the Munich-based company CIP Mobility GmbH and their mocci brand work and cargo bikes, Bolloré Logistics is introducing concrete measures to be able to achieve the corresponding savings in the CO2 balance. The fight against climate change, the improvement of air quality and the protection of nature are important issues for Bolloré Logistics. A major goal is to reduce global CO2 by -30% by 2030.

Tobias Deil

Bolloré Logistics Germany Managing Director

This pilot is just the beginning. We want to continue to actively improve our carbon footprint, in Germany and together with mocci, and also drive forward other potential projects with major customers and partners

With the Smart Pedal Vehicle, mocci has developed an eBike especially for the demanding, commercial sector. Thanks to intelligent software and hardware, the novel, robust and reliable cargo bike does not need a chain or belt at all. This makes it extremely low-maintenance and much more durable than conventional e-load bikes. Additional support is provided by the replaceable, powerful battery. By eliminating the mechanical transmission and reducing the number of components, mocci has created a safe and low-maintenance system.

As a further innovation, mocci relies on a construction made of a recyclable and extremely robust plastic instead of steel or aluminium frames. For example, the front and rear wheel as well as the frame consist of only one structural component. The CO2 emission in the production of such a frame is about 68 % lower than in the production of a conventional aluminium frame. The degree of recycling is about 95 % because there is no mixing of materials. Environmentally harmful processing methods such as painting or welding are completely eliminated.
