Bolloré Transport & Logistics is pursuing its programme to modernize and extend the Port Autonome de Conakry

Inauguration of two new ship-to-shore (STS) gantries at the container terminal.

Conakry. 25 February 2016

On Friday 25 2016, Conakry Terminal inaugurated two new ship-to-shore (STS) gantries at the Port Autonome de Conakry container terminal. Built by the company ZPMC (Zhenhua Port Machinery Corporation), the two ultra-modern gantries have a hoisting capacity of 62 MT. They have been wholly financed by Conakry Terminal for a total outlay of $17,229,620 US (around 132 bn Guinean francs). The new equipment joins the two existing Gottwald cranes already operating at the container terminal. They will help to increase productivity at the terminal by doubling handling rates to 25 movements per hour per gantry.

Over the last five years Bolloré Transport & Logistics has already invested nearly $153 million (1,330 bn Guinean francs) in the modernisation and upgrading of the container terminal. In November 2014 its new 340-metre wharf with a draught of 13 m went on stream, and, combined with the new hoisting equipment, will enable Conakry Terminal to simultaneously process two container ships each with a capacity of 4,000 TEUs. This is a huge step forward for Port Autonome de Conakry, the main gateway to Guinea. They will make a sustainable contribution to the growth of the Guinean economy enabling the country to gain market share in freight forwarding to the landlocked hinterland nations.

Bolloré Transport & Logistics is deeply committed to the Port Autonome de Conakry development project and plans to pursue its effort by investing a total of $550 million (around 4,250 bn Guinean francs) over the duration of the concession.

Marc GÉRARD

Managing Director of Conakry Terminal

We are proud to inaugurate these wharf gantries. It is a very important step forward in the fulfilment of the concession agreement that we have signed with the Port Autonome de Conakry. We made the commitment and we have delivered on it. The commissioning of the new gantries will have a very positive impact on the prosperity of Guinea’s port business. Parallel to modernising and equipping the port, we shall be focusing on transferring skills to the Guinean personnel by providing ongoing vocational training
